Photographing another human being should not come easily. Whether the image is created technically or practically with minimal physical effort, the end result should still cost something. If creating a portrait costs nothing then it is worth nothing. When working together to envision and create a portrait there needs to be dialog, passion and an intimate moment of vulnerability from both the artist and the subject — the desire to achieve that mutual goal. A mental, emotional or spiritual connection between artist and subject is where true collaboration flourishes and genuine beauty is found.
